Young-ho, a struggling student who has failed to get into college multiple times, has been wandering aimlessly through life. One day, while reminiscing his elementary school days, he decides to send a letter to a former school friend named So-yeon. So-hee has been running a small, second-hand bookshop with her mother since giving up college. So-hee writes back to Young-ho’s letter on her sister’s behalf. The two begin exchanging letters and their correspondence slowly brings color to their life. As the letters pile up, the two become a source of solace for each other and Young-ho eventually suggests that they meet on December 31 – but only if it rains – so year after year he waits for her, even though the day may never come…
